JOBURG BORN HIP HOP ARTIST AIMS TO TAKE THE WORLD BY STORM

Born in 1985, July 14th, Tebogo Phofa, better known by the alias B. I (Black Infant), grew up in Soweto. Surrounded by mostly Kwaito music while growing up, B.I only fell in love with Hip Hop at the age of 15. "The first Hip Hop album I ever bought was Nas' It Was Written. Nas would tell stories in a way I found influential. As I hit high school, my peers and I would form these circles during break, called ciphers. We used to be troublesome with those", says the star with a smile.

B.I started writing his first verse while listening to a Nas record. He then developed a writing style that set him apart from the rest of the South African Hip Hop artists. Months of writing and rapping to instrumentals became a big influence in developing his own sound and style.

B.I has done a lot in his career, including hit songs on radio stations such as Yfm and Metro FM. In 2010 he was interviewed live on DJ Euphonik's My House show. B.I released his first single titled The Good, Bad and Ugly, featuring Tswyza, who is now known for his hit single, Booty. "Man, the hustle got me far. This industry was not built for the faint hearted. In late 2010 I had the honour of meeting DJ Lemonka, who invited me to perform at his Hip-Hop session in Itsoseng, North West. I performed with great artists like Mo Molemi and Hhp", says B.I.

With his modern yet old school style, B.I's flow is comprised of mainly English, with random                  jabs of the Sotho Languages and slang. He draws a lot of his flow from the 90's era of rap, with a punch of new school. "My raps are influenced by the way I grew up speaking in Joburg, as well as my current life experiences", says B.I.

B.I was also featured on one of Hype magazine's mix-tapes, which exposed him to more opportunities. He got approached by Bujy Junior, who was then the producer of Dineo Ranaka's Live on Drive show on Yfm. Bujy requested for a jingle for the show, which played every week day between 3pm and 6pm.

The artist also has some of his tracks continuously playing on numerous soapies and documentaries such as Scandal, Rhythm City and Born Frees, on Etv. B.I has released two projects under his name; The B-ginning...Since '85, and his latest Ep titled AutoB.I.opic. The Ep was released on the 28th of November 2014, with the first single titled LacesLaces is currently on radio stations such as Yfm, Metro FM and 5FM. As well as campus radio stations such as UJ FM and Tuks FM.

Laces did well enough to reach the number 1 spot on the Hip Hop 9 at 9 show on Yfm. The video for the track was shot in April 2015, and has debuted on You Tube. The Hip Hop artist does not intend on limiting himself to his birth soil, but to grace the rest of the world with his unique sound. More is yet to come from this Joburg creative!

Kempton Park Hospital: A Dark Shell for Ghosts!

The front entrance of the hospital, abandoned in 1996 and is now an attraction for youngsters to experience a ghost thrill
Some say it was closed because of the shortage of staff, while some say it was just abandoned for no specific reason. Kempton Park Hospital was once known to be a private hospital, and like any other, had experienced and hard working doctors and nurses. However, they just left and left expensive equipment estimated to be worth R10 million, and until this day, about R1 million is spent annually on security.
Good working equipment well wasted over the years

The big question is, why not take that equipment to other hospital that need it? I guess this is just one other example of senseless decision making.

Looking on the rather spooky and fascinating side of things, this hospital has now become a dark shell for ghosts. It is rumored to be haunted! More and more people continue to visit the site illegally to experience the rush and excitement. Ronald Hart, the founder of the facebook group "A True History of the Untold - Kempton Park Hospital", was actually born there in 1991, and admits to occasionally spending some time at the hospital for quiet contemplation. "On a clear night you can see Pretoria...I like to come here when I'm depressed" says Hart. I guess one can never know for sure if the ghost stories are true or not, unless you get to experience it yourself.

The Gauteng Department of Health says preparations to refurbish Kempton Park Hospital are well on their way. Scheduled to begin March of this year (2013), the department expects construction to be complete by July 2014, in time for the hospital to re-open in 2015. Hopefully these are just not spoken words that will never see the light of action.

Part 2 of "My Hello"

Yet again, it's been a while...I should really get myself some internet connection at home. Anyhow, it's been quite a stressful day for me. just finished writing my last term test and I still have to wait before finally going back to my hive. Time really does fly though, can't believe its March already and soon enough I will be going home! I had such a wonderful time the last time and I won't say much on that, but i do have pictures...

ANY PUBLICITY IS GOOD PUBLICITY!

Moving on to the rather tragic and disappointing news, and I do know most people are already tired of this one (the Oscar Pistorius issue) including me; the 'Blade Runner' has been placed on the cover of Time magazine. For me, this is a bit disturbing...for someone that took the life of another human being, let alone his girlfriend, he shouldn't be graced with any privileged of being on the cover of one of the biggest magazines in the world. But then again, this is some type of de-ja vu if we look back to the O. J. Simpson issue when he also allegedly murdered his spouse in their home. I honestly don't have much to comment on or say regarding Pistorius, but one can only hope that justice gets served for the death of Reeva Steenkamp. As far as I'm concerned, any publicity is good publicity...
