As I was going through my Twitter account the other day, I came across a tweet that instantly caught my attention, and it read; 'a chemical found in urine, called urea (see picture on the left), is put in cigarettes to enhance the flavour'. I know most smokers out there are probably wishing they never got attached or started in the first place. For me, this is interesting, because no-one would ever think that a chemical compound found in mammals (including human beings) would turn out to be used in or as anything else at all. However, I did my research as always, and this compound can be created artificially. A sigh of relief from a lot of smokers neh! But this doesn't excuse the gross part of this whole idea.
I kept wondering, what other body waste or rather weird animal organs/chemicals are used in products that people use thoughout their daily lives. Brase yourself for this, because some of these facts are mind blowing. Firtly, human foreskin (yes, I'm pulling out that facial expression too) to some (including me), this may sound somewhat culturally unethical; is actually used by a number of cosmetic companies around the world. In the medical field, human foreskin is used to cultivate new skin growth; which is why this method has also been adopted by the cosmetic industry. One notable company, Skin Medica, uses foreskin fybroblasts in cosmetic creams and collagens, especially those made to reduce wrinkles.
The last "mind blowing" and extremely gross one is bull semen. This is reportedly used in body lotions and in salons as it allegedly provides any type of hair with a "brilliant" sheen. Too much semantic explosion for a day, too much information to take in. I guess plants are not enough in some cases.
